2001 New England Spring
ALDHA Work Trip

By Scott Beavers
ALDHA Treasurer
Woodstock, Vt., May 2001

Mother’s Day weekend, May 12-13.

MEETING PLACE: Teago General Store, in South Pomfret, Vt.
TIME: 9 a.m.

NOTE: The work trip is planned for two days, Saturday and Sunday. Although, I believe Saturday will be the biggest day. There are plenty of interesting projects. Plan to meet both mornings at the meeting place and to carpool a short distance from there. This section of the Appalachian Trail is maintained by Dartmouth Outing Club volunteer maintainers and students.

PROJECTS: Includes treadway hardening (rock work, bog bridging), drainage work, open area clearing (chainsaw work), clipping brush and some blazing (installing a few blaze posts and refreshing some white blazes, where needed).

Bring lunch, water, daypack, work gloves, chainsaws, tools and a love of grubbing about in the dirt. We have most of the tools we need but anyone who is comfortable working with a chainsaw and has one to bring, that would be great! Hopefully the snowpack at the work site will be gone by then.

DIRECTIONS: In the town of Woodstock, VT, head North on Route 12. A short distance out of town (about 1 mile) look for a Y intersection — turn Right onto Pomfret Road. There is an antique store located in the crook of the Y. If you cross the AT on Route 12, you’ve gone several miles past the junction.

After a few more miles you will reach what is locally known as Teago Corners — a Y intersection with the Pomfret Road taking a right and the Stage Road continuing straight. The Teago General Store is in the crook of the Y intersection. A small gravel parking lot is located on the left hand side of the road, across from the store. PARK HERE. Please park tightly on the side of the lot farthest from the store, to allow customers easier access.
