Presenting a series of 30 hand drawn annual snowfall maps along a 20-30 mile wide corridor of the AT from Georgia to Maine. This is 
the culmination of ten years of research, and two and a half years of production, and will potentially appeal to those with interests 
in climate, art, and geography in relation to AT.

The Appalachian Trail Museum will present its third annual symposium. This year the focus will be on "Peace Pilgrim," arguably the greatest long-distance hiker of all time. She was a woman who is little known in A.T. circles but hiked the Appalachian Trail in 1952 in the first flip-flop and, starting in 1953, walked continuously across the country until she was killed in an auto accident in 1981. Lucy Seeds (Grandma Gatewood's daughter) will be on the panel.

Learn to feed your body for optimum performance on and off the trail. Charlotte has run several marathons and regularly hikes 32 miles a day. In this workshop she will cover how to plan and prepare four months of food, including dehydrating, pressure cooking and vacuum sealing. She will also cover the basics on how bodies change over the length of a thru-hike, and how to best address these changes. (Charlotte Clews Lawther)

Stacy "Simply Seeking" Mikkalsen & Greg "Grizzly" Boone just returned from hiking the COHO’s Trail. It is New Hampshire’s newest hiking trail, and when finished, it will also be the state’s longest and most remote trail system.

Sue & Rich Freeman will present a new workshop/slide show. Away from tourist centers, they hiked to hidden valleys through tropical forests, explored volcanic craters and climbed lava peaks on the big island of Hawaii.

A Tennessee linear State Park, will be a 300-mile trail along the Cumberland Plateau. About 125 miles of trail are open, and about 75 miles of trail have been flagged. The Cumberland Trail will be a part of a 1,000-mile Western Appalachian Alternative to the AT, a long distance trail from Alabama to Virginia paralleling the AT with connector trails along the way. We’ll get our first look at a new documentary on the Holy Grail of every northbound A.T. thru-hiker — Mount Katahdin. Five years in the making, "Wilderness and Spirit, A Mountain Called Katahdin," is a feature-length documentary, 100 minutes long, that was produced, directed and edited by James "Huey" Coleman

In 1990, Bill Irwin hiked the Appalachian Trail with his seeing-eye dog, Orient, and became the first known legally blind man to thru-hike the A.T. Since his hike, the North Carolina native has gone on the lecture circuit to talk about his life and adventures; he wrote a book, called "Blind Courage," and he built a home in the woods in Maine. Sadly, Orient passed away a few years ago, but Irwin has a new seeing-eye dog.

Meet at the office parking lot of the campground to head out for work trip.
Last year, 19 ALDHA members were in attendance at the Monday Worktrip. This year, the Coordinator is challenging 30 members of ALDHA to participate. If 30 attend, she promises extra special lip smacking goodies as rewards.

Second Annual Photo Gallery Contest 
Winners announced Sunday at General Business Meeting
Guidelines:

1. Please limit your total entries to three;
2. Photographs should be no larger than 8x10; and
3. Write on the back of your photo your name, address and phone number so it can be returned later, or, more importantly, allows for acknowledgment of the winner.

Categories:

1. "I can't believe you are doing that!" A broad category for surprise, humor and what were you thinking.
2. "All About the Appalachian Trail" A.T. related, the photographs need to be from the A.T.
3. "The Hiking Experience" Photographs from any hiking excursion.
4. "A Trail Community" Let's look at our best side -- the work, the fun, any trail community activity.


Annual Apple Contest 
The annual Apple Contest is just around the corner and you are hereby challenged to bring your local apples for judging on Saturday, 4:00 pm at Thayer Hall. The winner will be announced on Saturday evening at the evening program (this is a great opportunity for bragging rights). The winners last Gathering were: Canada Goose (first); Two-Trees (second); and Sparrow (third).

Began last year, we will again dedicate a Gathering Wall to those members of ALDHA who are not in attendance, some in memory. Bring a photo of an ALDHA member who will not be with us this year so that they may participate in their own way.

Traditionally, ALDHA members participate in a post Gathering worktrip. As we continue to work on the logistics of the worktrip, we are encouraging you to plan to attend for at least one day, and for as long as a week, working with members of DOC. 
No experience at trail building is necessary. Bring a good sense of humor, comfortable clothing (layers), water, work gloves if you've got 'em, and the desire to give the trail some of your hard earned sweat.
Last year, 19 ALDHA members were in attendance at the Monday Worktrip. This year, the Coordinator is challenging 30 members of ALDHA to participate. If 30 attend, Stacy promises extra special lip smacking goodies as rewards.
