News Alerts from Google
Posted Sept. 4, 2003
Want to keep up to date on all the news affecting the Appalachian Trail? The Google search engine has just added a new feature called News Alert that will send you an e-mail everytime there’s a story posted somewhere online that mentions the A.T.
All you have to do is visit the Google Web site, type in "Appalachian Trail" and your e-mail address, and Google will do the rest. No fuss, no fees. It’s free and easy.
Click on this link to the Google Web site and type in the following text where it asks for news search: "Appalachian Trail"
Note: the quote marks before and after Appalachian Trail are important! (See sample box above.)
Next, choose whether you want to be updated once each day, or as the news happens.
Then, type in the e-mail address where you want your updates mailed, and you’re almost done. Google will immediately send an e-mail to the address you gave, asking you to verify that you do, indeed, want these news alerts to commence. Just click on the link in the e-mail where it says Verify, and now you’re all done. If you change your mind, click on the link that says Cancel.
Let the news flow.
