White Blaze Fever
Georgia to Maine
on the Appalachian Trail
Bill “Mountain Slayer” Schuette
It’s called "White Blaze Fever" and although you will not find the fever mentioned in any medical journal, have no doubt in your mind – it does exist and no one is immune. Only the most casual, most minute contact with the Appalachian Trail is needed to catch the fever.
Bill caught the fever while on a vacation with his family in the Shenandoah National Park and following a 30-year career in education, he retired and succumbed to "White Blaze Fever" as he fulfilled his long time dream of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. Completing his 2,167 mile thru-hike from Georgia to Maine in 153 days on Aug. 28, 2000.
He welcomes the reader to share his "White Blaze Fever" and become his vicarious hiking partner as he pursues the two-inch by six-inch white blazes from Springer Mountain, Ga., to Mount Katahdin, Maine. Through his daily journal entries – revised only a little – the reader will share encounters with bear, moose, snakes and other wildlife. And come to know a unique collection of individuals ("Nude Hiker" & "Tuba Man" just to name a couple) guaranteed to bring a smile to the face and warmth to the heart.
The book, 304 pages, is available in hardcover or paperback from amazon.com, online at www.amazon.com.
