Bruce Trail:
An Adventure Along
the Niagara Escarpment
Rich and Sue Freeman
“Blueberry & Cat in the Hat”
This 224 page book takes you along Canada’s longest trail for 465 miles (800 km) from Niagara Falls, Ontario to the tip of the Bruce Peninsula on Georgian Bay. The trail follows a unique limestone cliff called the Niagara Escarpment and wanders through fields of rare ferns and 500-year-old cedar forests on its way.
From this book you’ll learn what it’s like to be a long-distance hiker, the essentials carried by long-distance hikers, the art of sharing an adventure as a couple and the wonders of this world biosphere reserve.
The authors, Rich and Sue Freeman, once masqueraded as corporate executives. In 1996 they turned their backs on the long hours, high pay, and empty feeling to spend six months walking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. This trek changed their lives forever.
Since returning to civilized life, they’ve sold their house, written and published books on hiking and biking trails around Rochester N.Y., and started a publishing company. Discovering the Bruce Trail allowed them to once again feel the freedom of the outdoors, get their bodies moving, and shed the encumbrances of life in today’s society.
The Freemans are active in many local hiking clubs in the Rochester, N.Y., area and have participated in ALDHA Gatherings since 1998.
