Wanted: Trail Crew Leaders
and Ridgerunners

Jan. 26, 2007: Help protect and manage the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, one of the most famous footpaths in the world. Positions are still available!

The trail exists in part due to a dedicated group of seasonal staff and volunteers with the trail crews sponsored by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, local AT maintaining clubs and land managing agency partners. Trail Crew staff (14 paid positions including camp coordinators, crew leaders and assistant crew leaders) are responsible for leading, educating and motivating teams of volunteers on trail construction and rehabilitation projects from mid-April through October.

Ridgerunners and Caretakers (over 20 paid positions) take steps to encourage the best behavior on the part of hikers, to facilitate a positive trail experience, and to elicit the support of trail neighbors from February to October. If you are an outgoing, motivated individual with strong leadership skills, please go to http://www.appalachiantrail.org/seasonaljobs for details and an application.

For information on the Trail Crew Program, contact Kerry Wood at (540) 953-3571 or kwood@appalachiantrail.org. For more information on the Ridgerunner program, contact Bob Sickley at (717) 258-5771 or bsickley@appalachiantrail.org.

Application deadline is January 31, 2007.

Pine Ellis B&B for sale

Sept. 29, 2005: We have decided to put our place up for sale, and am contacting hiker folks in the hope that someone is looking for a place to be of service to hikers, as well as finding a great place to live. We have decided it is time to make some changes, slow down, and to at least semi-retire. We have had a great season, a very rewarding association over the years with hikers, and it is with mixed feelings that we think of closing down , and would be so happy if it could continue with new owners. Needless to say, we would help in any way we could to work with new owners, and to allow the name to remain the same if so wanted -- we are very proud of our reputation, and the work we have done for 16 years.

Anyone interested can contact us for details. At this point, we are planning to be open again for next season as usual, and will not be listing it for sale officially until next spring. If we find the right people, our timing is totally flexible.

Group photos available

High-resolution images of the group photos at the 2003 Gathering in Hanover, N.H., and last year's Gathering at Concord are now available. The files are quite large, so instead of chewing up space on our servers, we'll be happy to e-mail copies to anyone who requests them.

Send an e-mail request with "Group Photo" in the message field to photo @ aldha.org and we will e-mail them back to you. Remember to put "Group Photo" in the message field.
