Contra Dance 2011

1st Church

The Contra Dance is back! Yes folks, we are having a dance at this year's 30th Gathering, so be sure to rest up if you plan to cut a rug Saturday night. The dance will be from 9 to 11 p.m. at First Congregational Church on the Williams campus, just a short jaunt from the theather where we'll be for our Saturday night feature presentation.

Entertaining us for the dance will be The Flying Garbanzos, an acoustic fiddle and accordion band from Berkshire County. They play original, contemporary and traditional tunes in the New England, Celtic, French-Canadian and Appalachian traditions. They are a hoot just to listen to, let alone dance to, so we're hoping as many ALDH'ers as possible head over to the beautiful church right after Andrew Skurka's talk and kick back to enjoy a live band at the Gathering.

For a sample of their music, check out the embedded video clip above, via YouTube. For more clips, just explore YouTube for "The Flying Garbanzos."

Directions from the Williams Theater:
You can actually walk to the church, seen at left, from the Williams theater, but if you want to save time and drive, head east on Route 2 from the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance. You'll pass the college faculty club, Park Street, and the home of the college president before descending a little hill. You will see the church at the bottom of the hill on your left. Immediately before the church, turn left onto Chapin Hall Drive. Parking is available in the lot immediately behind the church. After the dance ends around 11 p.m., it's just a short drive from there back to our campsite on Oblong Road in Williamstown, if that's where you're spending the night.
