In case you missed it, we were graced by a surprise visit from one of the founders of ALDHA and the first recipient of ALDHA’s Honorary Life Membership, Bonnie Shipe. For years Bonnie welcomed blacktop-weary thru-hikers who passed in front of her house on the old Cumberland Valley Roadwalk in Pennsylvania. She was known as the “Ice Cream Lady” for the special treats hikers found on her front porch. She came to the Gathering on Saturday for the Contra Dance and posed for pictures with “Wood Chuck” ('85) and “Sprained Rice” ('89).
